The “Berkeley Cake Walk” is a cultural preservation and innovation site taking place in local Berkeley communities. This one-day free event invites local bakers to compete for a cash prize winning award for the best Cake or Pie in the tradition of Southern foodways. We host this event alongside a bill of Black folk & roots artists, local and touring, who will be performing and teaching during this occasion. Remembering the domestic traditions of our close ancestors and creating joy around this sharing is the central component of the festival. Cultural knowledge sharing is woven through several other mediums that will be highlighted, such as Heritage Quilting, Storytelling, and Land Sovereignty, with Black farmers and artists all present to engage the public in these subjects.

The Park Street Tavern
Established in 2018 in Alameda, California, on vibrant Park Street, The Park Street Tavern serves a menu with fresh ingredients influenced by Greek and Italian traditions, proudly prepared100% seed oil-free, using only natural and traditional ingredients.

Growing up, owner Christos Frangoulis spent his summers in Greece, often in the kitchen learning to cook with his aunts and relatives. These experiences ignited his passion for Greek and Mediterranean food and helped set him on the path to his restaurant career that started more than a decade ago.

Christos has held a variety of positions in Bay Area restaurants and bars, honing his attention to detail at every level of the restaurant business. His experience working at some of the East Bay's longest-standing Italian restaurants and his time in his relatives' restaurants and home kitchens in Greece have informed his menu at The Park Street Tavern, which emphasizes fresh ingredients and the best flavors from the Mediterranean.

"This place is fantastic!!!! Food is amazing, and it's a great atmosphere. The customer service makes this place so much so that I found myself hanging out a lot longer than what was anticipated. If you have never been, this is a must-go."
